Bhikkhu Ordination
Important Pre-requisites

A sincere invitation for those who wish to cultivate the Dhamma deeply.

Ordaining as a bhikkhu is a profound opportunity to develop one’s parami,
live simply, and walk the Noble Path under the guidance of the Sangha.
At the same time, it is a
serious commitment that requires clarity, readiness, and a heart truly inclined toward renunciation.

Therefore, we kindly request all applicants to read the following with mindfulness.

1. A Clear and Steady Intention

Bhikkhu ordination is a sincere step toward a life of Vinaya, restraint, simplicity,
and daily training in mindfulness and wisdom.

Applicants should reflect carefully and ensure their aspiration comes from faith, clarity, and a genuine wish to practise — not escape, pressure, or curiosity.

2. Physical & Mental Readiness

Monastic life is peaceful, but not easy.
It requires:

  • waking early
  • daily meditation
  • chores and service
  • noble silence
  • living in community harmoniously

Applicants should be in stable health and able to follow the schedule with patience, humility, and willingness to learn.

3. Freedom from Outstanding Responsibilities

To ordain sincerely, one should be free from:

  • legal obligations
  • debts that create pressure
  • unresolved family responsibilities
  • business matters requiring constant attention

The mind practises best when it is not pulled by unfinished worldly duties.

4. Training Before Ordination

There will be a preparation period where applicants stay in the monastery to:

  • observe 8 precepts
  • learn Vinaya
  • practise meditation
  • understand daily routines
  • build harmony with the community

This stage allows both the applicant and the Sangha to see if monastic life is truly suitable.

Ordination is not automatic; it arises from mutual trust and readiness.

5. Financial Requisites (Clarification)

There is no fee to become a monk.

However, applicants are responsible for their personal requisites such as robes, bowl, and simple daily-use items.
These are not payments — they are simply what every new monk needs.

6. Humble Commitment to Vinaya & Monastery Rules

A bhikkhu undertakes 227 training rules. These rules are not to burden us but to support mindfulness, clarity, and peace.

After ordination, one commits to:

  • practising meditation daily
  • keeping noble silence
  • reducing contact with phones/social media
  • performing duties with mindfulness
  • seeking permission before travelling or leaving the monastery

The heart should be ready to follow guidance sincerely.

Interview & Acceptance

  1. All applications will go through a review process.
  2. Applicants may be invited for an interview or trial stay as a 8 preceptors in the monastery.
  3. Final acceptance depends on the teacher (Ajahn) and the Sangha’s consideration.
